Tom Cruise is an actor with an amazing career. It was part of the blockbuster box office hit and was nominated for Academy Awards. With his latest movie, Top Gun: Maverick, the actor is returning to the role that helped make him a household name. And when the film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, Cruz was hailed as the star.

While the Cannes Film Festival is still largely known as a festival of more high-profile films, in recent years we have had the pleasure of showing blockbuster films that are potentially very lucrative as well. Top Gun: Maverick's premiere was similar to Cannes, where everyone wore a tuxedo. Tom Cruise received a standing ovation before the movie was released.



The applause was not the end of the awards given to Tom Cruise that night. The Palme d'Or is the highest award awarded by the Cannes Film Festival. 

 It is awarded each year for the best film at the festival, but for the past two decades the Honorary Palme d'Or has also been awarded to actors or directors as a way to celebrate the body of their work. 

 Honorary Awards were given to Clint Eastwood, Catherine Deneuve, Jodie Foster, and others. Tom Cruise became the last to receive the special award.
It is really true that Tom Cruise does not deserve such a high profile award. The guy has been making movies for four decades, and in that time he's done everything from making world-class movies like Mission Impossible to Oscar franchises like Jerry Maguire and Born on the Fourth of July. He is seen as a great actor and movie star.

 Not every actor is able to achieve both. And judging by the early reactions to criticism, Tom Cruise is ahead of another big movie. More than three decades after making the original Top Gun, Cruz is back for the role and most critics think Top Gun: Maverick is something special. Whether it's a great movie, or just one with great action scenes, there's probably something Cruise fans will love about the new movie.


Of course, while Tom Cruise may have won a prestigious award for his body of work, that body of work is likely far from over. Cruise has at least two more Mission: Impossible movies to come. The eighth Mission: Impossible is in production right now. He’s also expected to make a movie that will be filmed at least partially in outer space. There’s no indication Cruise plans to slow down even a little bit.
